In fishing, we have a saying. “Fish where the fish are”.
Self explanatory really.
But the same rule applies when it comes to your marketing effort, specifically on social media. In order to be making an impact on your target audience, you also need to be ‘fishing’ in the right spot.
Use our fishing business as an example. I know that for us, our number 1 customer base is the 30-50 year old male.
So where is he most active on social media?
Facebook.

Twitter:

Instagram:
Instagram’s audience is primarily female between the ages of 18 and 44 (source Marketing Land) and over 90% of Instagram users are under the age of 35. Instagram users are the most active with over 50% of its users active on Insta daily (source Jetscram).
Most effective medium for visual marketing (source LinkedIn).
Google+
They say if you want to make yourself standout, get on Google+ (but likely because your competitors won’t be active on there). But ask yourself, are your potential customers there either?
Google+ allows for engaged discussion (Google hangouts) and as such appeals to a more technically-minded audience (source GetSusan.com).
Pinterest:
If you are sharing drinks or food, Pinterest is the place to be.
Again, the audience is mostly female.
